From the 6th to the 9th of November 2017 were conducted anti tactical ballistic missile (ATBM) firings at NAMFI, in the context of the exercise AMDTF Tactical Firings (Air and Missile Defense Task Force Tactical Firings) by German and USA Forces.
PATRIOT, OZELOT and STINGER Air Defense weapons systems were used for the firings. NAMFI was in charge of the closing of the air and sea space for the safe conduct of the firings, the support and logistics of the troops.
The firings were conducted against air teleguided drones and ballistic missiles and the evaluated scenarios were of the most complicated used in NAMFI with high degree of difficulty.
The firings were observed by several civilian and military VIP visitors of the participating countries. Among the observers were the Ambassador of Germany in Greece, the German Defense Attaché in Greece, the Commander of the United States Army in Europe, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff (HAGS), the German Air Force Forces Commander and several high ranking officers of NATO’s member Nations.
Especially the American firings with code name “ARTEMIS STRIKE 17”, were watched by a great number of representatives of the Social Media, who afterwards interviewed the high ranking guests including the Chief of the HAGS. The Chief of the HAGS expressed his utter satisfaction for the exceptional conduct and the utmost support by NAMFI and mentioned the importance of NAMFI in the wider area.
