Anti-Tactical Ballistic Missile (ATBM) Firings are, in the last few years, NAMFI’s most prestigious activities. The first firings took place in Oct 2007 by German and Netherlands Air Defense Units and were a European lead.

Up to date, ATBM firings are conducted with PATRIOT weapon system, firing against the Supersonic Target (STAR) missile by TMD Target Providing Company. The STAR missile is launched from an islet 157 Km away from NAMFI and after following a high altitude trajectory with high velocity, heads to NAMFI range where it is detected, engaged and intercepted by the PATRIOT firing unit in the shortest time possible.

Besides the above concept, NAMFI has the capability and experience to host naval ballistic missile firings against the STAR missile or even use a different kind of weapon system or target under certain safety presuppositions.
