On Tuesday, 23 June 2026, the Candidate Embassy Attachés of the ‘L’ Training Course of the Diplomatic Academy of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid an educational visit to the NATO Missile Firing Installation (NAMFI), Crete, as part of their training programme.

The delegation, led by the Director of the Diplomatic Academy, H.E. Ambassador Michael-Christos Diamesis, accompanied by the Director of Studies of the Academy, Minister Plenipotentiary Second Class Michael Angelopoulos, and the Candidate Embassy Attachés, was welcomed by the Deputy Commander of the NATO Missile Firing Installation (NAMFI), Colonel (Artillery) Emmanouil Liodakis. During the visit, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing on NAMFI’s mission, activities,organisation and operational capabilities, with particular emphasis on its strategic importance as an internationally recognised facility supporting training, testing and evaluation of defence systems.

The briefing also highlighted NAMFI’s role in supporting national and Allied activities, as well as its contribution to enhancing defence cooperation, interoperability and the operational readiness of participating forces through multinational exercises.

The Candidate Embassy Attachés demonstrated a high level of interest throughout the briefing, as reflected in the numerous questions raised. The interesting discussions further underscored NAMFI’s unique position among others  firing ranges within Europe and its longstanding and effective cooperation with NATO (SHAPE).
